The security of the site has been audited prior to going live and is constantly monitored and updated by Jacques Martin. Lost soul If any member is aware of the whereabouts of Peter Crowle, formerly of Pleasant Point, South Canterbury please ask him to contact the scheme as soon as possible. Alternatively you could contact the scheme with this information. Voluntary contributions Members are advised that as a result of the development of the payroll system now used by the Fire Service, the Trustees have decided that in future all voluntary contributions will be required to be expressed in dollar and cents amounts rather than a percentage as has been the case in the past. Members are asked to assist in this regard when applying to the Trustees to make voluntary contributions to the scheme. Use of Trusts' as beneficiaries Members sometimes question whether a Trust mostly a Family Trust can be denoted as the beneficiary of a member's entitlement within the scheme. Because of the complexity of income tax law and the effect of the Estate and Gift Duties Act the Trustees resolved in August 1996 that this is not possible. Benefits will be paid to living persons only. Benefit payments Members are reminded that in order to receive a benefit payment Part 1 of the scheme's current Cessation Advice and Discharge' form must be completed in full and returned to the address set out on the form. Part completed forms will be returned for completion prior to any benefit payment. If the member follows this process and provides bank account details and a bank deposit form the benefit will be paid no later than ten working days after the cessation of employment with the Fire Service. No benefit can be paid prior to your final day of service irrespective of any arrangements you may have made. Death benefit payments Members are advised that as a result of the recent introduction of the Property (Relationships) Act 1976, the Trustees have established a policy whereby death benefits will not be paid until a period of six months has elapsed from the date of:
As well the Trustees will need to be satisfied there are no Notice of Proceedings' of an impending claim outstanding against the estate. Members should take this policy into account when getting their affairs in order. This will ensure their family's grief is not further extended at their time of greatest need. Borrowing against your funds Members are reminded that they are not able to borrow against the funds held on their behalf in the scheme. This is precluded by the Trust Deed, which states: No person being entitled to any interest in any benefit payable under the scheme shall assign, charge, alienate, or borrow against the security of any benefit.' Get your Supernews quicker If you wish to have Supernews and other important information from the scheme delivered to your screen by e-mail from now on please supply your e-mail address to the scheme Secretary at any of the contacts set out on the front page of this Supernews. The Trustees are mindful of the pace of developing technology and of the need to be able to send out relevant information to members as soon as it is available. It is with this in mind that this method of communication with members has been developed. All existing arrangements for the delivery of Supernews to members and stations will continue unchanged. _________________________
